Okay, for a first time making a plaster mask, I don't think I did too bad. I used a plastic mask as a mold. I made a mix of plaster and water so that it wasn't really thin, but wasn't super thick either...kind of like thin pancake batter. I would put the gauze in and soak it, then slough off the excess. I laid it where I wanted on the mold, being sure to keep it clear from the eye holes.

I didn't do the full face, I might do that with the next one I make (oh yeah, want to make more..more...MORE!!)). This one I had intended to use for Samhain, but it turned out too rough (ran out of plaster) and a little heavy. I think I will stick with buying my masks, at least for a while.

After it dried for 2 days, to be extra sure, I got some watercolors and painted it. I gave it a wash with my colors first, then dry brushed some paint on in spots to deepen the look of the mask.

After some inspiration and wondering, I remembered I had some temp tattoos that would look awesome on the mask. I looked through them and picked out the dragonfly group, cut 'em out and put them on. They STUCK!!! After an hour or so, I sprayed it with two coats of polyurethane to make sure it was sealed good. I might do another coat tomorrow, not sure yet.

I plan on using some leather lacing to hang it. I have two holes drilled, one on each side up by the top corners. You can kind of see it in the last photo. I have some green glitter paper I want to put behind the eyes so that they sparkle. I need to find a way to attach them. I might add more stuff to it later, not 100% sure yet either. I attached the eyes with clear epoxy, including to the mask itself.

The creativity comes in spurts, so I am not going to post another picture until I am done, lol!! I did however, paint some a clear glitter coat on it, it just needed some more sparkle.  This is definitely going to be a Fae mask!!

Okay, I have my mold form that I am going to use to form a plaster gauze mask. I plan on only going so far as the nose, leave the mouth area open. I think I want to glue feathers onto the face....I don't know yet, might paint it. I have some plaster....I need to see if I have gauze though....I might need that, lol!!

I want to make this mask for Samhain...I want to go as Athena.....as a woman with owl attributes. I am working on my jewelry; it'll have an owl on it with olive green colors and some brighter pinks and yellows. I was also thinking of making a headband thing using a skinny band, and gluing a feather "plume" onto it.  A lot like those you see on the models and in stores....just to have some feathers in my hair.

I have a couple dresses I can wear, and two floor length capes. No Grecian sandals, but it will be cold out and I don't care, lol!!

I will post pics later after I have finished my mask, headpiece and necklace.

Is anyone else dressing up for the Samhain/Halloween celebrations? I have kids, so the kid in me uses them as an excuse to dress up too!! ;-)

Woke up this morning to find a poster of 4 fairies sitting on Kati's table. Nothing weird, just wondered where it had come from, where she got it, etcetera.

When we got home tonight, she asked me where I got such a cool poster. She had no clue where it came from. Mike confirmed that it WAS NOT there when they left to go to the bus stop and work, respectively.

I am freaking out now. No one just comes into our house, except Mom and she confirms that she would have put it in the car or on top of the washing machine (just inside the door), not all the way into the house. Grandma, who lives next door, would have incessantly rung the doorbell, causing me a headache and the first *argh* of the day.

So, this poster appears out of no where, while Selena and I are sleeping in the house. The door was unlocked. I didn't hear anything amiss; the floor didn't squeak or anything...didn't hear the door open or close....no doorbell ringing...nothing.

Tomorrow as they leave, they are locking the door on the way out.
